This is a new company offering very relaxing and informative half day walking trips in the beautiful countryside around Ubud. The trip starts with efficient and on time pick up from your hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. The driver takes you to meet your guide Wayan in a village outside Ubud where your walk begins with a visit to the village temple for the morning blessing (the afternoon trip does not, of course, include this visit). Then you head off on your walk with Wayan - he is a very pleasant and well informed young man - and goes the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your day and learn as much as possible about life in a rural Balinese community. The driver meets up with you from time to time to provide cool drinks and fruit snacks - and I guess if you get too tired from the walk you could hop in the car - but I don't think many people would find the walking too strenuous! The scenery is delightful - rice paddies, a waterfall and an ancient cave/temple building. Wayan tries to show you the very best of the local area and often stops and chats to the locals - an old lady collecting flowers for offerings, workers in the rice fields and local farmers - he is happy to translate your questions and their responses which is a great way to meet people who you would probably never get to chat to otherwise. The trip concludes with a fantastic lunch at the fantastic Paon Cooking School in Laplapan village - where the food and the company are both fantastic - and you get to visit a genuine Balinese home compound as well. We would definitely recommend this half day tour as a great way to see a different side of Bali - we loved every minute of the trip. Wayan will also arrange different walks for second and third time vistors. We wish him every success with his new business - and look forward to catching up with him next year to see some more of this beautiful area around Ubud. Go Wayan!!
